Great First Week Back!

Well it has been a busy and full first week back after the Christmas holidays! I hope you were all able to get some rest and enjoy the season, and that everyone is now refreshed and ready for the next stretch! I certainly enjoyed my time with family and friends, especially the time I got to spend with my two year old nephew!

Dates to Remember:

Wednesday, January 13th – Full Dress Uniform

Friday, January 15th – Pro-D Day

January 21st – Crazy Hat Day

January 26th-28th – Scholastic Book Fair

January 27th – Knight Day

Spelling

There will be no spelling this week due to the fact that it is a short week.

Bible Memory

We are starting a new passage for Bible Memory. We will be learning 1 John 4:7-19 (NIV)

1 John 4:7

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”

Reminders:

Bring in your home reading if you have not already done so. I will be sending home new books on Monday.

The Grade Two’s did an amazing job bringing in cans for the food drive. We didn’t win the class competition, but the efforts to provide food for those who have less is a huge blessing! So thank you for contributing and helping our community in that way.

Birthdays are a fun way for students to get together and celebrate with their friends. As teachers, we understand that you may not be able to include all of the students in the class. However, this is very difficult for those children who are excluded, especially as they see other students receiving invitations. From this point on, it will be Highroad Academy’s procedure to not hand out birthday invitations at school unless all students are included. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Guatemala Mission Team Announcements:

We have two students, who are going on the missions trip,  that our classroom has adopted. Nathaniel and Cameron. They came to join us for lunch today and told us about a few ways that we can help them with their trip to Guatemala.

1. We can bring in donations for them to bring along. They are asking for:

  • pencils
  • pencil crayons
  • rulers
  • erasers
  • small cars
  • small stuffed animals
  • bouncy balls
  • face clothes
  • small soaps
  • tooth brushes
  • small tooth paste
  • hairbrushes
  • combs
  • small dolls
  • children clothing
  • children shoes
  • twin sized sheets
  • baby clothes
  • children size scissors

2. The team is doing a bottle drive on Saturday, January 16th from 10-2 pm at the school. They would appreciate anything that you can bring. If it is more convenient for you to bring any bottle donations on Thursday, rather than making an extra trip out on Saturday, they will be storing bottles in Portable 3. Team members will be outside that area to assist you with unloading.

Thanks in advance for supporting our missions team!
