Friday Update

Lots happening this week. The students were so excited to start researching for our Insect Reports. They have only just begun the process, but it was very fun to listen to them as they discovered new facts that they didn’t know before. We have also continued to talk about Atoms and all the ‘stuff’ of life that the world is made up of. Many of them have found this to be so interesting. We are also wrapping up our Math unit on division. Pink Shirt Day was on Wednesday, and we read the story ‘Recess Queen’ and talked about what bullying is and is not. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves God has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Friday Update

A short week, but busy as we packed a lot in. We had a visit from the missions team at our assembly on Tuesday. They came and shared about where they are going, and the purpose of their trip. They also talked to us about how we can be involved and support them as they go (see more information below). This week we talked about Food Webs, and the complexity of how different food chains in an ecosystem are intertwined. Students have really enjoyed learning about this for Science. We have also wrapped up our unit on the Beatitudes for Bible; next we are going to be looking in depth at some of Jesus’ parables. Students were very excited this week to begin learning about division. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

We have started our Friday Letters. Every Friday, students will be writing a letter to mom or dad or a sibling, and they will bring it home with them. I am asking that you take a few minutes to read it and respond on the back of the letter. Then they need to return the folder on Monday, so that we can get this back and forth letter writing going. Please make sure that you take some time to respond, it is special for them to read what you write, and I don’t want them to be left out.

Message from Alynne Shinness – Music Teacher

Hello Parents!

We are looking forward to our spring concert and this year instead of our usual “Spring Showcase” the Kindergarten – Grade 3 classes will be performing “The Music Machine” on Monday, May 13 at 6:30pm.

We are asking that students wear jeans or uniform pants, sneakers, and a short sleeved t-shirt in a solid colour of your choosing, with no printing on the front (shirts may be turned inside out to hide printing if needed).

On February 5th and 7th, the children will be video recording some dialogue with the Conductor, played by Mrs. Shinness in our studio.  We are asking that all students please bring a solid-colour t-shirt with no printing on the front.  They can change into the t-shirt before heading to the studio.

The following classes will be recorded on the following days:

Feb 5th: Kindergarten (Mrs. Morris), Grade 2 (Mrs. Ellis), Grade 3 (Miss Rast) and Grade 3 (Mrs. VanLeeuwen)

Feb 7th:  Kindergarten (Mrs. Larsson), Grade 1 (Mrs. Folkerts), Grade ½ (Miss Evans)

Please make sure your child brings their shirt on the day they will be recorded.

At the bottom of this message is a link to a copy of the entire musical.  We have adapted the dialogue portion for groups of children instead of the Stevie and Nancy characters. Your children will enjoy hearing their music at home, and it will help them prepare for the performance.

We are also in need of assistance from any willing parents who would love to create some props.  We need 2 large snail costumes.  If you would like to help, please contact Alynne Shinness (ashinness@highroadacademy.com) or Angela Kennedy (akennedy@highroadacademy.com)

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break! I spent much of mine sick (which felt bound to happen after weeks of sickness rotating through our class!) but was able to enjoy the last few days getting out and about. I have enjoyed hearing all about the break from the students today, sounds like lots of fun was had.

Just wanted to send out a couple of pieces of information for this week, and then will have a more detailed post on Friday.

Wednesday, January 10th and January 17th – both of these Wednesdays are PJ/Cozy Casual Day. We had the one planned already, but the second one was added because we reached our goal with the canned food drive. Yay!

We have no spelling list this week.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas holidays have arrived! The students all did such an  amazing job in the concert this morning. I was so proud of them all. I want to say a HUGE thank you for the kind words, cards and gifts that so many of you blessed me with. I am looking forward to a restful break and hope that you all are as well! See you in the New Year!

Luke 2:3-14

And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared  with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
