Weekly Update

It has been a great week in Grade 2. Life Cycle Science Reports, introduction to our story writing unit, and working with ordinal numbers have kept us busy all week. There is lots of excitement as we begin talking about researching for our reports, and as we talk about the elements that we need to write interesting and creative stories. We will be working hard on these for several weeks, and look forward to sharing the end results!

Come and join us on Friday, April 26th from 5:00 – 8:00pm for a fun, family night of volleyball and basketball with our alumni and current students. Our cafe will be open and there will be a food truck available to serve hotdogs and hamburgers. Athletic and school apparel will also be available for purchase. I hope to see you there!

Weekly Update

Wow, this week has felt very long for some reason, but we have made it! Thanks to all the parents that joined us on our field trip to the zoo. It was a lot of fun! Grandparent’s Day was also a huge success. It’s always so enjoyable to have them come in and see what your children are learning. The kids are always SO EXCITED to show and share about all their work, and growth, and about the routines we have in class.

  • Please note one change to the April calendar – Knight day was originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 24th, but it has been CHANGED to Friday, April 26th and no hot lunch will be served this month.

 

Zoo Field Trip

Good morning! It’s looking like we are going to have some blue skies for the field trip today, which is great!

It’s been a great first week back after spring break. Fun to hear all about the adventures and memories that the children made over the break! We have jumped right back in, and have been working hard all week. We started our Life Cycles unit in Science, we are beginning to work more with subtraction in Math, and are talking about Easter for Bible. Have a great weekend!

  • With all of the beautiful weather, it is time to think about our summer planting. This Spring we are running a garden fundraiser called Growing Smiles, in the hope of raising $2,000 towards our school beautification project. Please go online at www.highroadacademygrowingsmilesfundraising.com to see the plant options available. You can place your order online or at the school office. All payment will need to go through the school office. Thank you for investing in Highroad Academy! Order forms went home earlier this week.
  • If you have said that you are coming on the zoo field trip, can you please write a note in your child’s planner indicating if you are planning to take the bus or drive yourself, I just need to ensure we have enough seats on the bus. I will also be creating groups over the next few days, so if you were a maybe, could you indicate one way or the other in your child’s planner. Thanks!
  • make sure Grandparents Day invitations have been handed out – if you don’t have grandparents around here, you may invite someone else to stand in for a grandparent 🙂

  • Silent Auction Baskets:  The week before spring break we were collecting $5 per elementary student to put together grade level baskets for our upcoming gala silent auction.  We thought it might be good to extend our collection of donations for this week as well.  If you are able to donate $5 to help us make a basket for the silent auction, your child can give the donation to their teacher or pay at the office.  Thank you!

Crim. Check for Zoo Field Trip

Good morning! We are almost there … just two more days.

Just a heads up for parent’s who are coming along on our Zoo Field Trip …. in order to come on the bus, and to take a group around on our scavenger hunt, you MUST have a criminal record check on file and up-to-date. Please check in with the office ladies and they will let you know if you have a current one on file. I will be looking into this, so please make sure you take the time to do so also 🙂
