Friday Update

Hard to believe we have just one week left before Spring Break. We are all feeling the excitement as it gets nearer, lots of high energy in the classroom. This week we have had lots going on … we had a Safe and Unsafe Substances Assembly in class, and also handed out certificates at that time. The G.W. Graham Orchestra came and performed for us on Wednesday. The students were very excited that they played the song: We Don’t Talk about Bruno.  This week we had a visit from Mr. Morris. A couple of weeks ago the students wrote persuasive letters to Mr. Morris, and so he came to see them about the letters. Some of the things that were promised were daily coffees, cleaning his office, money, and trips to Hawaii (if you receive a bill for his ticket in the mail, now you know why 😉 haha). We also had a lockdown drill this week. This drill is always unnerving, and the alarm is one that is particularly unsettling for students. However, they did a great job, and I was proud of them for listening and following the protocols as they know to do. I hope you all enjoy the weekend, and get some rest as we head into our last week before Spring Break!

Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘he has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

We have had an enjoyable week! The students were all excited to be able to play outside, especially with all the snow. It’s hard to believe that we are just two weeks out from Spring Break! This week we started a math unit on patterning – talking about the difference between repeating, growing and shrinking patterns. We also finished up our unit on Weather and Erosion for Science. Students completed a weathering and erosion sort to demonstrate their learning. And finally, we have started talking about fiction versus nonfiction books, as well as what and how to do research. We are working on learning the skill of note taking, which we will use to do some research over the next little while. Lots going on, and we will continue to pack it in to these last couple weeks leading up to the break. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

1 John 4:7-13

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so love us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: he has give us his Spirit.”

    Friday Update

An eventful week in Grade 2/3 this week. Valentine’s day is always an exciting day, with so many treats and Valentine’s cards, and fun activities. Thanks for helping with the Guatemala Fundraiser by participating in the pay to wear casual day and the hot lunch. This week in math we have been Superheros! Students designed their superhero outfit, gave themselves a superhero name, and then had several math tasks that they had to complete … practicing their flying time, lifting heavy objects, knowing their surroundings,  skills needed by a superhero … and then they completed tasks that allowed them to rescue people or animals, putting out fires, and helping people in a flood! These jobs have required them to think about many of the skills we have learned and been working on throughout the year. We have continued this week in Science talking about weathering, erosion, and deposition … completing some experiments and learning about what these things mean. A great week leading up to a well deserved long weekend. I hope you are all able to find time to rest and enjoy these days off!

    Friday Update

This week had some exciting things going on … from the snow outside,  to a Missions Chapel, and meeting Izzy (one of the High Schoolers going on the trip), to figuring out the details for running a Taco Truck. Students have all been busy busy. This week we also began to talk about some of the miracles of Jesus; we read about Jesus healing the sick and calming the storm. We have also began working on a persuasive writing unit … this week we read the story “I Wanna Iguana” and we started to work on developing sound reasons  to persuade someone. I was away on Wednesday, but the students had a great day with Mrs. Garnier. This nasty cold that has been going around caught up with me. I was glad for a day of rest, to recuperate, and then to be able to finish out the rest of the week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

    Friday Update

Lots happening this week! We wrapped up our water cycle unit for Science and starting talking about landforms – and what impact weathering and erosion have on them. We have been reading different Jan Brett stories, for our author study, and have finished that up this week as well. For our art this afternoon, we did a directed drawing of a snowman huddle – so cute how they turned out! For Writing this week, we read a story called ‘How to Be’ … so students each chose an animal and wrote ‘how to be’ that animal … and then followed up with a writing about ‘how to be ME!’ It’s fun to see them think about what makes them them, and how they are special. I hope you all have a great weekend!

    Weekly Update

Lots has been happening this week. PJ Day on Wednesday was definitely a highlight! We also had a great time making pizza in the kitchen on Thursday. This was tied to our ‘Instruction Writing’ unit for Language Arts. We’ve spent lots of time thinking about how to be specific and detailed when we are explaining ‘how to’ do something. This week we also wrapped up our Socials Unit about Canada. In Science we have been learning about the water cycle. This week in particular. we looked at snow as part of the water cycle … we did some science experiments, about snow and how it is formed. Keeping with the theme of snow, we read a story and then did a writing activity about what we would do if we lived in a snow globe, which for art we then also made. Lots of fun and learning happening this week! I hope you all have a relaxing weekend.
