Friday Update

Short week, but lots packed into it! We started talking about the Armour of God in Bible, and this has been an interesting thing to start talking about. We talked about how we have to ‘put on’ the armour, and then we were pretending to do so. But we are also starting to unpack each of them individually, learning what it means to ‘put on’ because it isn’t a literal thing (which some of them are still wrapping their heads around). We also started a new unit in Science all about Water. We did an experiment to start the unit. We hypothesized if it was possible to turn a glass of water upside down, with a card blocking the opening … and there was great excitement when it actually worked!

Friday Update

It was an exciting week this week! We had a surprise Earthquake drill on Monday, and I appreciated how quickly the students stopped and followed instructions. It’s always good to see how we respond when something is unexpected. We also celebrated Valentine’s Day on Wednesday. This was a lot of fun. We did all Valentine’s, all day! So lots of fun and out of the ordinary jobs were enjoyed, as was handing out all the little valentine’s. It was definitely a cold week, so thank you for sending your children dressed appropriately to be outside. We are doing what we can to get them outside as much as possible, as that it the recommendation right now. When dressed appropriately, they all still have fun, but enjoy coming in to warm up after the outside time!

Cold Weather

This week the weather is supposed to be VERY cold! Please send your children dressed appropriately to be outside … boots, winter jackets, touques, mittens … it is cold, but we are still outside.

Friday Update

This week we had a Lockdown drill. I was pleased to see how well we did. We stopped what we were doing, and then walked over to our safe spot and quietly waited to be released from lockdown. This drill is always one that is a little bit more unsettling than some of our other drills, the sound of the alarm is sometimes hard for them, but they did a great job with it. We made our Valentine Bags this afternoon, and the students are all excited for Valentine’s Day celebration in the next week. We will be doing all things Valentine’s on Wednesday! I hope you all have a restful and relaxing weekend, it definitely feels needed at the end of this week.

Valentine’s Day is coming up this week. Students are allowed to bring valentine’s to give to their friends (any treats have to be individually packaged!). If you choose to do Valentine’s, please make sure you do one for each child in the class, not just a couple of friends. It is completely optional to do them though. Thanks.
