Weekly Update

Sorry, forgot to post this on Friday! A bit of a disjointed week this past week, with Parent Teacher interviews in the middle. It was good to connect with so many of you, and touch base about how things have been going this year. This week in Social Studies we began a unit on Canada. We will be learning the different provinces, and reading across Canada. And in Science, we began a unit on Matter. We all know the basics of solids, liquids and gases … but we are going to be getting into atoms and molecules, and all the ‘stuff’ of this world! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. (11) Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. (12) This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (13) Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God, and saying, (14) “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”

Friday Update

Lots of sickness going around this week … not only in our class, but in other ones as well. Many of you have missed a day or two, and some of you more. Hopefully we will all be able to get back to full health soon! Praying for lots of rest this weekend. This week we have been busy! We started working on novel studies independently for Language Arts, each of us reading at our own reading level. In Gym, we started Hockey … 4 corner hockey feels a little chaotic at times, but they have been really enjoying it. Mapping is what we have been working on in Social Studies … learning about a compass and directions and map keys. We also had a surprise earthquake drill! I’m always pleased when students respond well to a surprise drill … they knew what to do, and they did it. So way to go! Have a wonderful weekend!

We are going to be working on memorizing Luke 2:8-14. This is part of the Christmas story. I know it seems early, but it will sneak up on us quickly and we want to have lots of time to memorize it! We will be learning one verse each week. Bold is what we are currently at with learning the verses.

We hope you can come join us on November 10th at 10:30am for our Remembrance Day Service.  In preparation for this service, we are asking all our Highroad families if they have a special Veteran in their lives that they would share with us.  Please go to Honouring Veterans and upload a photo and story of your special Veteran this week.  We would love to share the photos and stories at our service.

Friday Update

It’s been a week of pivoting and adapting to different things … we were indoors all week, which at times can make us all a little stir crazy (praying for enough rain to clear the smoke!) and then we had to adapt to a cancelled field trip. I am so proud of all the kids though … being told we couldn’t go to the Apple Barn was very  disappointing, but they handled it so well.  Being able to switch it all up, planning some different activities, was hopefully still fun for them all. We played some pumpkin games, painted pumpkins, and made/ate pumpkin pit in a cup. There was a lot of laughter and smiles!

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Apple Barn Field Trip

Our field trip to Taves Family Apple Barn is this Thursday. It has come so quickly! Please remember to pack a lunch that your child will be able to eat easily outdoors. We will be eating our lunches at the Apple Barn on the picnic tables. Students can wear play clothes. It is not supposed to rain and should not be muddy so boots are not necessary. Please send a plastic or cloth bag that your child can put their pumpkin in.

If you have stated that you will be meeting us at the Apple Barn, please remember to pay for your admission at the school office.

Friday Update

There was a lot going on this week, but the students all worked hard. We had our first primary only chapel, we completed a pumpkin art project using oil pastels, we started an author study of Laura Numeroff stories – this week reading If You Give a Cat a Cupcake. In Math, we have been working on addition with regrouping … either 2-digit or 3-digit. It’s been a great week, and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
