Weekly Update

What a fun and exciting week in Grade 2. We had our Decorating Party on Wednesday, and then started our 12 Days of Christmas! While Wednesday’s decorating party/tree day was busy and chaotic, it was fun to make all sorts of decorations, which now are all up around our classroom. We are looking very festive! Thursday we had Santa Day, which included starting a unit on Holidays Around the World for Social Studies. And on Thursday, when we learned about Australia, we learned that Santa arrives on a surfboard … this caused lots of amusement and laughter. And Friday we had Snow Day, which included making snow! We enjoyed playing with ‘snow’ outside, trying to build little snowmen (however it was a little crumbly so that was tricky!). I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Home Activities – If You Wish

Hello families
We are hoping that you are staying safe and dry. When we left on Wednesday, no one could have imagined that we would be in this position now. However, we know that God is in control. As Joshua 1:9 says, “….Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
You should have received an email last night from the Highroad Admin with some details regarding today. If you have not received it, please let the office know or check your email folders as it contains some important information about what is happening at Highroad Academy.
As many of our families, including staff members, are facing challenges, we are not focusing on academics right now. Rather, we are looking at ways we can perhaps serve others even in small ways. However, if you are looking for things for your children to do while at home, we have put together some activities focusing on kindness and ways to be thoughtful at this time. The pictures below have lots of activities attached that can be done at any age level. Clicking on the pictures below will bring up a larger image.
Students can also spend some time writing down their reflections on what is happening around them like a diary. Their writing can focus on what they are seeing, hearing and feeling.

These activities are entirely optional. We understand that there may be other priorities or even ways your family can be of service in your community that are more important.

Above, we are praying for you, and we hope that we get to be together again soon.

Friday Update

It’s been a kind of wet and dreary week …. with a couple days inside pretty much all day! But we’ve worked hard and accomplished lots this week. We had our Worries and Fears assembly on Tuesday, and did some follow up activities after. I have to say, in reading the responses to what makes them nervous or scared, and what they can do for themselves to help in those situations, I was so pleased with the thoughtfulness and intention that they responded with. I think it helped me to know a little bit more of who they are, and that is always a pleasure. We also used this week to do some Place Value Assessment, while also having some fun with that (edible place value)! This week has been great. I hope you all enjoy your weekend!
