Parent Helpers Needed

Hello parents, we have Fun Day coming up next week on Wednesday, June 21st. I am in need of a couple of parent helpers to run a couple stations for the morning. Fun Day runs the whole morning. If you are willing and able to help out please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

Friday Update

Two weeks and counting …. and time is just flying by. We have been so busy, and there has been so much going on that I have a hard time keeping track of the days sometimes! We are finishing up many things, much to the excitement of the students (no more spelling and phonograms … they are pretty stoked about that … ). And we are continuing on with our countdown each day, which has brought lots of joy and fun. They eagerly anticipate each morning when we get to pop the balloon and see what the day holds. We had our First Nations Cultural Day, which the students all seemed to enjoy thoroughly. Thanks to Shauna Jimmie for all her help with today! It was very much appreciated!

Dates to Remember:

Wednesday, June 14th – Talent Show and also a half day (noon dismissal)

Bible Memory:

I have tested all of the students on their Bible memory.

Reminders and Other Information:

  • Please return your Home Reading books
  • Permission slips for the waterslides have gone home, please return those signed
  • Any outstanding library books need to be returned to school so that you won’t be charged

Countdown Continued …

# 4 – Eat lunch with whoever and where ever you want

# 5 – Scavenger Hunt

# 6 – Sidewalk Chalk

# 7 – Do all your work with a pencil crayon … while this one was fun in theory, it made things a little tricky for some 😉

First Nations Cultural Day (because we were not working in our classroom, or in our normal routine for the day, we did not pop a balloon on Friday)

Friday Update

Summer Countdown has started! We have begun our balloon popping countdown … which has been very fun 🙂 The students are all so excited each morning to see what will be special for that day. We kicked off our countdown with the privilege of working in partners for the entire day. They were astonished that I was going to let them do their math together. The second day found us with a special treat in our hands, and quite literally all over our faces … yum 🙂 Friday we were able to enjoy a nice picnic lunch outside before we left for our swimming field trip. Thanks to all the parents who made it out for the field trip … it was a great afternoon!

Spring Sing was a huge success. I was so pleased with the students and how well they behaved and sang, even as they started to get tired and wilt a little bit.  It was a great night of praise and worship as a school community. Praise God!

Dates to Remember:

Wednesday, June 7th – Last assembly

Friday, June 9th – First Nations Cultural Day

Spelling and Phonograms:

We have no more spelling lists. We are done for the year. I will be doing some end of year testing, but otherwise we are all finished! Yay!!

Bible Memory:

Psalm 40:1-5

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.”

I will be testing this passage over the next week.

Reminders and Other Information:

  • Home Reading – I would like to start collecting back the books that have been borrowed for this. As students bring these in, on their day, I will read with them for the last time for Home Reading and new books will no longer be sent home.
  • Reminder to bring in your library books so that you are not being charged with overdue books

We have a few more things we are trying to finish and get through, but it will be intermixed with lots of fun events! Definitely a busy time of year! Next week, on Wednesday, we are going to start a SUMMER COUNTDOWN. Each day we are going to pop a balloon and inside will be a fun activity or thing that we can do for that day. The students seem to be pretty excited about it … should be lots of fun 🙂

Spring Sing Update!

Hey Everyone, Just wanted to update you on some details for Spring Sing that I have just received. Any questions, let me know 🙂 Here is the information from our music teachers:

Hello parents,

Our annual Spring Sing concert is this Monday, May 29th, at 7pm. Students need to be in their classrooms at 6:40 in order to line up and be seated with their classes. The dress code is black and white or a combination of the two (not grey), with casual bottoms, such as blue jeans. Any shoe is fine, but please no shorts or skirts. I would prefer that the students not have any logos or characters on their shirts, and if you are unsure of what to have them wear, the uniform shirt is a good option.

I would like to encourage you to come out to this event. As a mom of two busy kids, I am all too aware that the pressure to keep up with events and activities can be overwhelming, which is why we try to keep nighttime events to a minimum. Your child has worked hard on their music and is looking forward to performing with their class, and we hope that all of our students will be able to attend this event.

Many thanks,

Hannah Mackie and Ruby Caswell

Friday Update

Superhero Dress Up day was definitely a highlight this week. We started off the day with a lot of excitement in chapel, as the MC students joined us. They got the kids all pumped up during worship, performed a dance, and shared with us about the Trinity … the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It was a day full of excitement and fun. We also started research projects in Science. Students chose, from a few options, what they would like to research and then they were put into research groups. It has been fun to watch them delve into this project, learning how to research and work together in this way. We also had a surprise fire drill on Thursday. The students responded well, stopping what they were doing, and following directions to ensure safety. Great job Grade 2’s!
