Christmas Festivities

12 Days of Christmas countdown starts this week … every day we will have a theme and our activities for the day will, mostly, revolve around it. I ask that you do not tell your children the themes, I would like them to be a surprise. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know, especially around some of the more ‘make believe’ themes.

Theme’s included (but not in order):

  • Grinch day
  • Christmas Carols day
  • Reindeer day
  • Gingerbread day
  • Candy Cane day
  • Santa Claus day

There is nothing that needs to be done for these days, it will just be a fun way to countdown the days until our Christmas holidays!

Along with the themes, we will be studying the Birth of Christ over the weeks leading up to Christmas. We will be reading stories and discussing the Christmas Story from the perspective of Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, and the wiseman.

Friday Update

I want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone for meeting with me this week. It was great to actually have a conversation either face to face or online with all of you, especially because for the most part we have waved at each other from a distance. So thank you for taking the time, and for checking in with me. This week we started our first novel study, Frog and Toad are Friends, for the majority of the class. Christmas Festivities

I LOVE all things Christmas! And over the last few weeks before Christmas holidays we will be doing lots of Christmas fun and activities.

I have always loved to a decorating party, and having the students create all the decorations that we put up. Due to not being able to have parent helpers, I am switching up the way we are going to decorate the classroom this year. Next week, November 23rd-27th, we are going to take some time every day to create a decoration that we can put up around the room. It will be a ‘week long’ decorating party instead of an afternoon.

Starting the following week (November 30th) I am going to do a 12 Days of Christmas countdown … every day we will have a theme and our activities for the day will, mostly, revolve around it. I ask that you do not tell your children the themes, I would like them to be a surprise. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know, especially around some of the more ‘make believe’ themes.

Friday Update

It’s Friday! It always feels like such a strange week when we have a day off in the middle, but I hope you were able to remember and reflect on the freedoms we have here in Canada. It was a little different this year to have our assembly in the classroom, and on a screen, but I’m glad there is technology and ways that we can still honour and reflect on Remembrance Day and why we celebrate this day. We did some poppies for art, and I think they turned out so great!  This week has been pretty busy, with lots to do and try to fit in to a short week. We enjoyed doing some experiments about Force and Motion for Science, we have been playing a few different games to help us memorize our facts for making 10, and we were writing about our favourite pets, or pets we would like to have. We also had in person chapel this week, which always feels like such a treat when we get to worship together. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. See you on Monday!

Friday Update

This week we had an assembly, where several of our students were recognized for the hard work and the kind behaviour they have been demonstrating in class. For our assembly we talked about Worries and Fears. This is a very relevant topic to be discussing in this season right now. Parent-Teacher Interview Sign-Up

Parent/ Teacher Interviews are coming up on November 16th from 9am – 4pm. It is my goal to meet with every family and chat about areas of strength and things to work on. I am available to meet in person and remotely through video conferencing. I am fine meeting either remotely or in person, however, I do love the idea that it would be a chance for you to come in to the classroom, see it, and look through some of the work your child has been working on. That being said, you will be required to wear a mask, and if you are bringing children with you they will need to be able to stay outside on their own. So I can be flexible with either remote or face to face. Please sign up on the link below. Let me know if you are having any difficulties. I look forward to seeing you, and meeting some of you for the first time!

Friday Update

Well, another week down. Another short week with lots packed into it. I have been so impressed with my Grade 2’s and the way they have tackled new concepts and skills. Always good to practice and make sure we know what to do. As a Read Aloud, we have been reading Charlotte’s Web. We finished that today, and are looking forward to watching the movie as a class next week (if anyone has concerns about this, let me know). I hope you all enjoy a great long weekend!

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  • On Oct. 28, one of our fabulous local business’, Fraser Valley Roofing, has graciously agreed to sponsor a Hot Dog Day for our students. At lunch time, the food truck will be here to hand out hot dogs to our entire school! Each child will receive one hot dog and 1 bag of chips free of charge. Students do not need to sign up or send anything to receive the hot dog or chips. If students do not wish to have get a hot dog, they should bring their regular lunch and let their teacher know that they will not be having a hot dog on the day of the event. This should be a fun day as it is also Fall Colour Dress-up Day for our students!

Friday Update

Good afternoon! We have had a full week in Grade 2 this week. We did an earthquake drill, started learning how to add with regrouping, had our first chapel with the Grade 1’s and the Grade 1/2’s. It was so fun to be able to be in the chapel and worshipping with other kids. We also been enjoying books in the series ‘If You Give a …’ and this week read about ‘If You Give a Pig a Party’. Lots of hard work, and awesome learning happening around here.

Dates to Remember:

Friday, October 23rd – Pro-d Day

Spelling:

No spelling list this week due to the short week.

Bible Memory:

We have been asked to memorize Psalm 23 for the Remembrance Day Assembly (which will be recorded).

If you could help your child work on this at home, as well as us doing it at school, it will be great. Please work on it from below (so that we are all using the same version).

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

And then we have our verse for the week of October 19th (which lines up with our chapel topic).

Mark 10:13-14

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
